Here are 5 reasons you don’t want to use Yell.com or the Yellow Page for SEO.
You’re Just a Number to them – They really don’t care about you or your business. Think about it, Yell have tens of thousands of clients, how much thought do you think they’re giving to you and your business? None is the answer. You’ll hear from them once per year when it’s time to renew your contract. I challenge you to take up digital marketing through a summer season, just to see how differently you are being treated. Notice how a lot of real marketers often become tied to their client’s projects as partners. Their efforts are indeed important and highly valued. A simple ad in a relic is not hard work.
You Don’t Own Anything – When you buy a website from Yell, they own it, you’re simply renting it from them. This includes the domain name and any work they do for that domain. We advise that you always own and control your assets. What if you want a better website, a redesign or you want to change providers? You have to start all over again. This means with Google too! All the SEO and PPC history is lost. Any work Yell have done for you belongs to them. With SEO and PPC history is critical, don’t give up control of it.
You Can’t Track Anything – Yell will not provide even standard tracking such as Google Analyatics. The provide their own tracking system which is “basic” to say the least. And seeing as you don’t own the website, you can’t add more adequate tracking yourself. If you can’t measure it – don’t do it! Everything must be measured, if a service provider doesn’t encourage this, let alone not allow it, then it’s a good sign that they don’t have your best interests at heart.
SEO and PPC are Bespoke – For SEO and PPC to work the service provider has to intimately understand your business and more specifically your clients. Who are they? What do they respond to? How do they buy? What do they really, really want? What are their most pressing pains? And so on. How can you target and market to an audience when you have no idea of who that audience is or what they want? Yells business model is volume not quality. This is not a good thing for you, the client.
Wasted Budget – As a result of reason 4 you’re going to have a lot of wasted budget. Yell are using software to construct your SEO and PPC campaigns, this is how they keep the price low. You’ll be paying for keywords that aren’t relevant, you’ll be advertising products that you don’t sell and you’ll be spending a lot of money you don’t need to spend. Cheap is never cheap. Your marketing budget will always be spent but it will not always yield a return. You’re far better off engaging in a bespoke service that’s tailored to your needs and delivers the desired results than a cheap service that in the long run will cost you dearly.
Of course Yell marketing is not all bad, it has its place and it has its use. That place is for lower end businesses and start-ups who want fast services at low prices.
Here at Web-360 we focus on established businesses who are looking to take their already good results to the next level, for that Yell doesn’t work!
